About

A sports-gear publication for people who actually use the gear.

GearScout is an independent, reader-funded buying-guide site covering running, cycling, strength training, golf, and racket sports. We exist because most product reviews online are written by people who never used the product — and the rest are written by people paid by the brand. Neither serves the person actually trying to spend money well.

How we research a guide

Every guide starts with a single buyer question. We collect candidate products from current retailer listings, the manufacturer's own specifications, and independent reviews from publications and communities that have real testing experience with the category.

We then narrow the list by who the buyer actually is — beginner vs. experienced, the constraints of their space and budget, and the way they'll really use the product. Every recommendation is paired with the specific reader it's for, and we verify the price and availability before publishing.

We re-check every published guide on a fixed cadence so the picks reflect what's currently in stock at the price we list.

How we make money

GearScoutearns affiliate commissions when readers buy through our retailer links. We do not accept payment to recommend a product, we do not give brands advance copy review or veto over our coverage, and we don't weight rankings by which retailer pays the best commission. Read our full affiliate disclosure for the details.

Who's behind GearScout

GearScout is led by Bradley Bayley. Bradley is the editorial voice behind every guide on the site.
